I vaguely remember that the inscription you quoted was the basis of the continuation of PS by Vikraman (Editor, Amutha Surabi magazine) in a novel named " Nandhipuraththu Naayaki".

You are rite abt that, and Balakumaran has confirmed it in one of his novels.
After reading that I called up Balakumaran to confirm it by his word and he said that he himself read that inscription in that temple,so I'm pretty much confident guys

hi Iam anardent fan of kalki and specially ponniyin selvan..I read nit first when i was in my 6th standard(original with maniam's drawings preserved by my grandfather!) and after that i have read it more than 10-15 times(sometimes my wife calls me crazy for that)but each time i read it is more interesting..
1.I think none of you have commented on the charecter of Akadian who has beenvery important in carrying the story further on many turning points..(w/o him VT would not have found AMV in lanka!)
Also the story of Karuthiruman adds spice to the story..
2.I WONDER IF SUCH A KALVETTU EXISTS HOW COME KALKI WOULD HAVE MISSED IT??!! OR WAS IT DISCOVERED LATER??!!
CAN ANYONE THROW SOME LIGHT ON THIS...

I read Ponniyin Selvan after reading Sivagaamiyin Sabadam. While the latter rent my heart into two, I was awe struck by the former in many places. Especially the characterization in Ponniyin Selvan is par excellence.
But I somehow felt very bored nearing completion -by 4th and 5th volumes. These two could easily have been made into just 1 volume in my opinion. I think the reason for the decrease in tempo was because Kalki never intended to run the story for this long. It was just to keep the readers' wish that the story not be ended, I think, that the story was unnecessarily prolonged.

ponniyin selvan is the best novel i have ever read and kalki, the best historic story wirter ever came across. in fact, vt has become my dream man and kundavai replaced my dreamgirl sivagami from sivagamiyin sabadham. sadly though, there are a very few in my generation who read these. in fact, i am now in the u.s. where one of my seniors spotted me with the book and said that i am reading stories fit only for grannies. Does anyone have any idea about where one can buy paarthiban kanavu online? i know that u get it at vanathi padhippagam in madras, but online? help!!!

I went to 'kodikkarai' some 6yrs before and saw the azhagar koil standing alone... as mentioned in the novel.
We also went inside the forest , which is not the conventional forest as we may visualise, but still one has to know the way to come out even today.....
unfortunately , nowadays there are some restrictions in accessing the forest, while returning we were apprehended by some security organisation and warned that after sunset, they have got shoot-at-sight orders , if they sight some strangers..... that made us slightly annoyed after visiting such a nice place.
We wanted to climb the lighthouse but that too was restricted due to security reasons...
anyhow, we cant but admire 'poongulazhi' the care-free and dynamic karaiyar (karavey?!) girl who lateron become pattathurani in that novel .. while seeing the forest and the azhagar temple.

Ponniyin Selvan,in recent edition they've some historical fats that would satisfy us.
1.The Klavettu is true.Rajarajacholan punished them, but after the death of Nandhini i.e after a long time.
2.Vanathi was true to her resolution. She died when Arulmozhi came to reign.
3.Madhuranthakar was defeated by Arumozhi and that small child(another Pandiyan) was defeated by Rajarajan.
4.Arulmozhi met Nandhini before her death and she revealed all secrets to him.then only he punished ravidhasan & his gang.
That's all I remember now.Let me see the book again and tell you later.

ps is a good history novel. i have read it 3 or 4 times. lot of confusions. u can read it for literature good tamil, kaki's descriptions.
but the story is humbug and most of the chacteristics and story flow are fictitious.
kalki is a descent writer. no body will forget kundavai and nandini(nandini is a brahmin- brahmin affinity,azhvarkatiyan-brahmin affinity ?)
whereas chandilyan novels start with some true period and incident. all other story events will be fictitious.chandilyan really wrote sexily.
my vote is for chandilyan only.

hi visu,
ps is not a humbug as u mentioned. all the characters are true. he might have included his imagination in narrating things, but the history is true .

Hi Ram,
Visu wud have compared Kalki with sandilyan..thats y he is telling kalki is decent..
I feel it is somehow true only...kalki's is decent enough than sandilyan....
Most of sandilyan's stories will be of two heroin subject and in every story there will surely be a comparison abt the beauty of the both...
I think he has standardised that in most of his stories.
