Hi folks
I know the theory of graha-bedham but I wonder if this knowledge is ever put into use.I mean is this just taught to show how the shift of tonic generates a new-raga or is it actually used in singing.?
If it is used in singing I will presume that it is used in ragamalikas. Can you take up a ragamalika or a certain recording of particular artiste and point out to me where graha bedham was used.
2.After listening to a few begada renditions I am still not sure where N2 is used and where N3 is used .Can somebody shed light on this.
3.Regarding the post on Narireetigowla I got two e-mails.The contents are discussed below ,but I shall not name the persons who mailed me:-
View 1:-There is no difference between Narireetigowla and Reetigowla.Actually the former is the official name which was previously in vogue. Some have suggested that there is a use of the Bhasanga Suddha D in Nari-r but I am not convinced.
View 2:-Nari-r and r vary in the swara D .IN Nari-r the teevra D gets Bhasanga status but in Reeti the suddha D gets Bhasanga status.
----------------------------------------
Please commets/answer the above three questions.
Bye.

Hi folks
There are few concepts on Taal that I would like to clear
I have always believed jati=nadai=gati
Am I right?
Also I wanted to start a discussion on Talas especially some rare Talas .If any of you guys are aware of some thirrupagh Talas then please start a thread and post some Info.
Now let me post an article which seems like greek to me:-My comments in Brackets
Bmk is given a lot of credit for his composition in Panchmukhi taal(ever heard of this ).I do not know what is the big deal because it is not uncommon from other Thirrupagh talas.Basically according to me panchamukhi is adi Taal but set to three beats.(Another bombshell -I have always assumed that when you say adi taal you refer to an
8 beat cycle)
============================
Bye and please comment on this .If there is a good discussion on taal maybe we could start a new thread and our Mridangamist friends Nick and Rohan could shed some more light on technical aspects etc.

Consider it done! I don't know how far it'll go though, considering adi talam (chatusra nadai chatusra jati triputha thalam, that is!) covers 90% of the carnatic music we here.
I reckon it covers a LOT of western music as well.

I understand that korvais in Mridangam playing are to be constructed based on a certain pattern/formation called "Yati". Can anyone throw some light on Yatis.
