I have heard about some tapes that teach you hindustani classical music. Can anybody enlighten me on this?

They also have tapes of ragas of each Hindustani thAt.
I don't think you can learn Hindustani by listening to tapes. Special techniques
applied on notes in some ragas , movement
from one note to another, breath control,
tans etc. can be learned only from a human
teacher. But commerical tapes may enhance
the appreciation of music. There is also the
music today series titled "Music Appreciation".
